This study focuses on land governance and rural conflicts in the Logone Oriental Province i southrn Chad. It analyzes land resource management mecanisms and factors contributing to conflicts among rural actors, particularly farmers, herders, and local authorities. In a context marked by population growth, agricultural expansion, pastoral mobility, climate change, and oil exploitation, natural resources are becoming increasingly contested. The main objective of this reseach is to analyze the influence of land governance machanisms on theemegence, management, and prevention of rural conflicts in Logone Oriental. To achieve this objective, a mixte qualitative and quantitative methodological approach was adopted. Data were collected through documentary reseach, field surveys, semi-structred interviews, questonnaires, and direct observation. The findings reveal that rural conflicts Logone Oriental are mainly linked to land pressure, agropastoral conflicts, informal land sales, weak land between agricultural and pastoral areas. The study also shows that the coexistence of customary law and modern Maw complicates land management and incréases tensions among actors. Furthrmore, traditional mediation mechanisms and local consultation frameworks play an important role in preventing and resolving conflicts despite institutional limitations. The study concludes that participatory, inclusive, and transparent land governance is essential for strengthening social cohesion, preventing rural conflicts, and promoting sustainable rural development in Logone Oriental.
